“CMG
designed a marquee that features uneven angles and flat
bars,
which embraced the inspiration pieces brought to the project
by the hotel’s owners.”
The Bowery Hotel
is known for its intricate, historic design. When
the Bowery Hotel’s owners decided to add a canopy
marquee and storefronts throughout the entire hotel,
they came to CMG with a vision for the project. The
hotel owners’ inspiration for the project was
drawn from a set of fairly minimalistic vintage storefronts
and marquees in New York City’s meatpacking
district. The challenge that CMG faced was designing
something that maintained the intriguing aesthetic
of the inspiration pieces while also embracing the
richness and intricacy of the design present in the
rest of the Bowery Hotel. Another obstacle was matching
the historic look of both the inspiration pieces and
the rest of the hotel in the doors of the storefronts
while still creating functional doorways that could
withstand high traffic.
CMG designed a marquee that features
uneven angles and flat bars, which embraced the inspiration
pieces brought to the project by the hotel’s owners.
To bring in the intricacy that the hotel is known for,
black hex nut screws were brought in, which added to
the richness of the look of the pieces while reinforcing
the strength of them. In the doors, CMG designed a system
made of steel angles and T-bars, which were welded together
for leak proof and soundproof guarding. Welded hinges
were installed to address the high-traffic needs for
the door, including high-quality oil based door closers.
